Aspire to Be Deadly is Field2Future’s flagship program, using sport to engage, mentor and empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young women and girls.
Founded over a decade ago in Far North Queensland, it began by helping young people move from school sport into club participation through the Cairns Hockey Association. What started locally has grown into a recognised sport-for-development program supporting confidence, education engagement and leadership pathways across regional and remote communities.
Through culturally grounded mentoring, community partnerships and structured participation, Aspire to Be Deadly helps young people strengthen identity, build resilience and gain the skills to succeed in school, sport and life.
Aspire to be Deadly
Aspire To Be Deadly supports young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls across the Field2Future framework,
helping them Play, Learn, Lead and Thrive.
Sport is the entry point, with hockey and multi-sport activities promoting teamwork, confidence, health and wellbeing, while building strong connections with peers, mentors and community.
Education engagement is strengthened by linking school participation with sport and mentoring, supporting goal setting, decision making, communication, life skills and positive learning pathways.
Leadership is a core focus, with mentoring, leadership camps, ambassador roles and community opportunities helping participants develop confidence and skills to lead in sport, school and their communities.
The program also supports long-term pathways into education, employment and community leadership, encouraging young women to pursue their goals and contribute positively to their communities.
